Guide To IRC Clients Empty
PostSubject: Guide To IRC Clients   Guide To IRC Clients EmptySat Apr 24, 2010 2:16 pm

Hi, this is a quick how to on getting connected to GovChat using two of the more popular clients. X-chat and mIRC. Chat is a good place to just hang out and talk with people. But no one likes the java chat. We wrote this hoping that we could get people to realize that java isn't the only choice.

First we will be reviewing X-Chat. XChat is an IRC chat program for both Linux and Windows. It allows you to join multiple IRC channels (chat rooms) at the same time.

Download X-chat.

Install X-chat.

On the network, type in your user information.
Your nickname, second choice, third choice, user name, and real name.
Which you don’t have to enter if you don’t wish to.
Click add. Type in a brief description of the chat. Such as ‘TeenPlace.’
Click off of it so it saves.

Then click on TeenPlace, and press edit.
In the ‘servers for TeenPlace’ add and enter chat.thephilperry.com.
Next enter the channels you would like to join. Without spaces, as shown.

Type in your nickserv password in the ‘nickserv password’ text box if your name is registered.
If not wait to do so until after you register your name using /ns register password email
Then review to make sure everything is correct. Click close.
Select Govchat and press connect.

Now we will be reviewing mIRC. mIRC is a popular IRC client used for many things and by many people. According to the website, it has been around for over a decade and has evolved into a powerful, reliable, and fun piece of technology.

Download mIRC.

Install mIRC

When you first start it up, go to, File, Select Server.
You should see a box like this, pop up.

Click on Add.
This box, will come up.

Fill in just as I did, with your own password.
When that’s done, click add.

Go back to this page. And click select on the server name that you set it as.

You can now see a box with things for your nickname etc. Fill it out with what you want. For example, mine is filled out like this. Click OK.

At the top left of mIRC, there will be an icon, like this. Click it, you will now connect to Teen Chat.

Congratulations! You just set up mIRC for Teen Chat
